The Gravity of Light
September 24, 2026 - January 3, 2027
@ BMoCA

The Gravity of Light brings together seven contemporary artists who use light as material and lightness as a physical experience. Through photography, video, drawing, and installation, the artists use color, shadow, and contrast to emphasize how light affects our physical experience.

Light plays a profound role in our lives by constantly influencing perception and physical sensation. Familiar yet mysterious, it surprises with dramatic displays or soft subtlety, emanating from both natural and artificial sources. The physical body experiences light through a complex array of responses to color, temperature, location, time and more. This subject has been interpreted by artists for centuries as a symbolic representation of hope and a powerful metaphor for life.

Light shapes so much of how we experience the world, affecting what we see and how we feel. Between Light and Shadow is a workshop inviting participants to explore that space where light and shadow meet within, a quiet practice of witnessing ourselves through mark, image, and contrast. This meditative experience will take place in the galleries and will include a guided cacao ritual.
