Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and artist Diego Florez-Arroyo present Recontextualized Roots at three Anythink Library branches. These large-scale installations draw influence from Florez-Arroyo’s heritage and as site-specific responses to the unique communities served at each of these libraries. In his distinct and refracted stylization, Florez-Arroyo blends references and metaphors using varied media. In Bennett, his sculptural mariposas rely on technical craft inspired by piñatas alluding to migration. His mobile in Thornton pays homage to Bauhaus influences through its compositional principles. And in Commerce City, the physical segmentation in the painting poetically depicts concepts of duality between misalignment and reunification.
About the Artist
Diego Florez-Arroyo is a full time poet, artist, and musician. In Colorado, he has produced a variety of projects from large-scale prefabricated installations to outdoor mural projects to multimedia theatrical performances. Diego is a founding member of the Denver band Los Mocochetes.

The Recontextualized Roots exhibition and associated programs are part of a collaboration between Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and Anythink Libraries in Adams County. Through this initiative, BMoCA presents free, museum-quality exhibitions by regional artists at library branches and complementary programs at the libraries and neighboring schools. The collaboration works to expand accessible educational and cultural opportunities for Adams County residents of all ages and backgrounds.
