The Future of BMoCA

Concept Review Open House with SO-IL

BMoCA hosted an Open House on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 4:30 - 6:30pm that was free and open to the public. This event was an informal meet and greet event with our architect team from S0-IL (Florian Idenburg & Jing Liu). They brought initial concept drawings that were on display and the community was asked for feedback. The boards were on display in BMoCA's lobby on Friday, Saturday and Sunday after the Open House.

At left are the preliminary concept drawings that were shared. The first one shows three options for the layout of the creative campus, which will include the museum, live/work spaces and retail.

The second picture explores three options for the general layout (floors/entrances/footprint) for the museum.

The third picture shows where in North Boulder the project will be located.

The next steps involve refining both the campus and museum, which will be shared with the community and the city to start the permitting/approval process.

The EMPOWERING COMMUNITY THROUGH ART Campaign is a unique, transformative, once in a lifetime opportunity. It will allow us to foster community as we spark dialogue, inspire audiences, and connect people of all backgrounds to the transformational power of contemporary art. We will do this in new and exciting ways through innovation, dedication, and expansion in four key areas: Exhibitions, Education, Artists & Creatives, and An Investment in Boulder’s Vibrancy.

For the past 50 years, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) has advanced the contemporary art field in Boulder and beyond by uplifting the voices of artists and offering creative educational experiences to our community. As we look towards the future, we envision a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a new museum in an exciting new building and innovative, inclusive community space. We see an iconic gathering place that empowers new and exciting levels of engagement and cultural opportunities in the region.

Our new museum, envisioned in partnership with the community, will build on the momentum of the North Boulder Art District and catalyze the future of the arts community in the region. This intentionally designed and sustainable space will be a beacon for creative exploration and expression that fosters dialogue about important and relevant topics of our time while fueling the joyful powers of art. It will offer an inclusive environment where artists of all backgrounds can thrive and grow their practice. The future BMoCA will celebrate the arts, transcend generations, and deepen our connections. This campaign, and our community, will bring it all to fruition as we join together in EMPOWERING COMMUNITY THROUGH ART.
