Yes &

“Yes, And” is a phrase often associated with improv drama. It is an ethos of acceptance and addition. Because of the improvisational nature embodied by many contemporary artists this mantra also has implications in the visual arts as well, and is reflected in the collaborative approach used by the curatorial duo TAD Projects.

The end result in relation to this exhibition is an eclectic mix of styles and aesthetics that are human centric. With the increasing ubiquity of AI and LLM’s we’ve turned our attention to the human qualities of what makes art special: The wavering line, thick brush stroke, hand squished clay, rough hewn wood, and choices that reveal process when pairing found objects, cultural content, new technology, or formal elements.

Artists act as a filtration system that processes the external world through their bodies via the senses, digesting and integrating its nutrients then reshaping it as an output expressing their unique fingerprint. The end results of this filtration process are poetic imperfections that are perfect signature expressions of individuality or glitches of human nature.

Each artist in this show exhibits two works, and this pairing should show both continuity in style and artistic deviation from aesthetic formula. This show is also accompanied by a zine that pairs another facet of the artist’s life outside of their art practice, calling into question the layered role context plays when appreciating or understanding a work of art.
