The Ladies Fancy Work Society is a Denver-based artist collective inspired by the playful, fantastical and boundless possibilities of all things fiber. For this presentation the artists ask that you “firmly ensconce your head in the clouds, specifically Kelvin Helmoltz, Cotton Monster and the Celestial Pancakes. Come say hi to the nine precipitous Pancakes that make up Kelvin, spread over three JeffCo libraries. Sassy Boy might tell you a joke, Diva likes it when you take selfies with her, and as for Clairence… well you’ll have to find out for yourself. Read them a story, let them whisper secrets to you, gaze at them and let your imagination change their shapes, or just tell them they’re pretty! They’re excited to meet ya!” - The Ladies Fancywork Society
About the Artists
In the words of the artists “the Ladies Fancywork Society has been terrorizing neighborhoods with their garish yarn crimes since 2007. What began as a group of crochet-loving friends just chillin' out, maxin' relaxin' all cool and shooting some b-ball outside of the school, transformed into a diabolic art hydra capable of putting together large-scale projects, international art shows and installations”
Our Community Partners
The Kelvin Helmoltz, Cotton Monster and the Celestial Pancakes exhibition and associated programs are part of a collaboration between Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and three libraries in Jefferson County: Belmar, Lakewood and Evergreen. Through this initiative, BMoCA presents free, museum-quality exhibitions by regional artists at library branches and complementary programs at the libraries and neighboring schools. The collaboration works to expand accessible educational and cultural opportunities for Jefferson County residents of all ages and backgrounds.
