Nikki Pike: YES
InsideOut @ BMoCA
May 2026 - November 2027
For this large, steel piece Pike stripped her earlier phrase down to its simplest component - YES. It is a response to our current, very troubling times of alienation and division. The artist acknowledges that “YES is utopian. It’s aspirational - a permission and an imperative: yes, to equal pay, equal access and equal treatment.” She adds, “I want to offer the yes after years of no because yes gives consent; it implies opportunity and collaboration.”
The sculpture is a potential antidote to xenophobia, both a call to action and a reminder that the affirmative and the welcoming is something as innate to us as our fears. As a social cue, writ large and placed in the downtown center of Boulder, YES is needed now more than ever.

Nikki Pike grew up in Black Forest, Colorado where she spent her days outside climbing trees, riding bikes and hunting for the end of the rainbow. The adopted daughter of a nurse and an engineer, and one of six siblings, Pike learned to work in groups and negotiate early on - fighting over the measuring cups in the bathtub and wooden spoons in the garden. The Pike family children grew wild imaginations.
Pike is an Artist and Activist. Her home and studio is in Denver, Colorado. She uses universally positive human experiences such as curiosity or empowerment and favoring art experience over product. Pike’s expansive practice straddles Public Arts, Social Sculpture, and Service Art. Pike has been featured at the Denver Art Museum, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, and Art Basel Miami. Most recently, Pike’s work has been collected by The Museum of Art of Wyoming; The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and CSU SPUR Campus.
