About Us

For over thirty-eight years, The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) has served citizens and visitors of Boulder County. Established in 1972 by a group of local artists to showcase and promote visual arts and then in 1976 it relocated to its current location in on Thirteenth Street, next door to the hand crafted Dushanbe Teahouse. Renamed the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in 1995, a series of renovations took place in the 1906 historical landmark building that once served as a granary. In 2009, BMoCA upgraded its interior with the addition of an elevator to service visitors to the second floor.

The overarching curatorial goal is to contribute to the vibrancy of Boulder’s contemplative reputation through exhibiting world-class art. Artwork is installed in the museum’s three galleries on a seasonal cycle. The schedule of the museum’s programming provides visitors with consistent, thought-provoking exposure to contemporary art.
