Consisting of videos, Plexiglas prints, and an interactive installation inviting visitor input, the Mindscapes Series explores the notion of landscape in relation to brain activity. The aim is not to give literal representation but to contemplate the processes and relationships between the devices and systems that facilitate and define our perceptions and experiences. To this end Fernando Velázquez composed an algorithm to render possibilities and speculations about the surroundings that shape our view of the world, how we build awareness and convey memory.

Velázquez will present a live audio-visual performance of the Mindscapes Series during MediaLive 2012.

Fernando Velázquez was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1970. Since 1994, he has lived in São Paulo, Brazil, where he is a professor at the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation.
