Maggie Evans: Metamorphose
August 13 – August 18, 2013 @ Present Box

met.a.mor.phose
verb
1. undergo metamorphosis (of an amphibian or insect)
2. change completely in form or nature
3. revolutionize the wedding dress

A wedding dress is like a cocoon. When a bride steps into the dress, she is maiden. When she steps out of the dress, she is wife.

Dressmaker Maggie Evans transformed BMoCA’s Present Box into a collaborative sewing studio. Visitors were invited to participate in the creation of a wedding dress by writing their thoughts, feelings, fears, and hopes about marriage, the wedding itself, or the rite of passage of commitment directly onto the fabric. The finished dress debuted in a performance and fashion show on Saturday, August 17.

Present Box

Launched in the summer of 2011, Present Box is a series of temporary exhibitions featured in BMoCA’s lounge. Present Box exhibits innovative installations, performances, and events that last no longer than two weeks. These exhibitions present site-specific projects that foster interactive participation. Present Box exhibitions are always free and open to the public.
