A Taste of China / Wang Jing

78artistimage1BMoCA is happy to host guest curator Dr. David Raddock, who is an expert on China and one of the first scholars to publish on Chinese avant-garde art. With a doctorate in Chinese Studies and Political Science from Columbia University, David taught Asian Politics at the University of Texas and intermittently worked as Research Associate at Columbia’s East Asian Institute. His “A Taste of China” exhibit will feature the work of Wang Jing, who juxtaposes Chinese traditions with American pop cultural images for a satirical look of Chinese society. She says, “I just want people to have fun when they see my paintings. They should laugh with us at some of our old customs and our new preferences. We Chinese really love to eat, even strange things.” Jing was born and lives in Shanghai. She began as a student in the oil painting department of Anhui University and went on for her MA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
